There’s nothing quite like the scream of a two stroke engine and the smell of burning engine oil is always right there with that scream. In the world of motorsports its sound is unmistakeable. Dirt bikes would see the two stroke engine utilized on early models because of the smaller size. Snowmobiles would also follow suit because of the light weight. It was only a matter of time before the atv would make use of the technology to improve response, increase speed, and reduce weight. The first two stroke quad made it to market back in 1985. The Suzuki Motor Corporation would design and release the Quad Racer, a two stroke racing quad with a 246cc powerhouse. Although two stroke engines were appearing on earlier ATC’s from the big four manufacturers (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha), this quad in particular would set off a revolution of racing and sport riding. The atv brought more stability to the table with four wheels versus the three wheeled atc’s. Engine size and power was utilized far better on quads when riders became more apt to keeping their wheels beneath them. The atc was considered unstable and its production would eventually be outlawed, but the two stroke quad would flourish in the coming years with all the major manufacturers contributing their own version.

The two stroke engine was first invented back in 1878 but the first patented two stroke motor, a v-twin, didn’t come along until 1904. The two stroke design has certain advantages and disadvantages when compared to a four stroke engine. One stroke equals one cycle, therefore a two stroke engine completes its energy production using half the cycles of a four stroker. This is because two stroke engines have no valves. The fuel intake, fuel ignition, and exhaust emission all happen on each cycle (or revolution) of the engine. Four strokes in comparison use a camshaft and a series of valves to separate all the phases of energy production. These additional components add overall weight to the four stroke engine. The two stroke however must burn oil during its ignition phase. This accounts for the blue or grey smoke which emulates from every two stroke exhaust port. Two stroke engines require oil to be injected simultaneously with the fuel or pre-mixed in the fuel tank. Two strokes also burn more fuel versus the four stroke powerplants. Citing emissions, noise pollution, and higher fuel usage, the two stroke engine has all but been eliminated from automotive and street motorcycle market, but the lightweight simplicity and sheer horsepower per cubic centimeter of these engines allowed them to flourish in the offroad market.

In their heyday, quad manufacturers flooded the market with their own two stroke engines. Beside the big four, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha, other big players like Polaris as well as a variety of small scale Chinese manufacturers have capitalized on two stroke power for their quad atvs. But new, lightweight, and more efficient four strokes would eventually become the accepted powerplant for the majority of production quads. The two stroke has been completely dropped from the lineup of most manufacturers in favor of reasonably quiet, fuel efficient, technologically advanced four strokes. Sport quad riding and organized racing have also, for the most part become four stroke events. As quickly as the two stroke engine entered the atv industry, it has, for the most part, fallen by the wayside even with new advances in emission technology, including reductions in odor as well as smoke.

About the Author:

When you’re out cruising the trails on your ATV or dirk bike, it is imperative that you take great care to respect the area where you’ve been allowed to ride. Over the course of the last few years, negative publicity has come against riders of quads and other recreational vehicles as a result of those that did not respect the boundaries of private property. Many issues such as terrain damage, vandalism, and excessive littering have made land owners understandably apprehensive about allowing riders to use their land.

The first and most important guideline for riding on private property is to respectfully ask for permission from the land owner. Remember that he/she is doing you a big favor by providing a quality place to ride your bike. You should never ride on someone’s land without their explicit permission, and never ride on “assumed” permission. If you’re lucky enough to be allowed to use the land for your riding pleasure, be sure to honor the rules set forth by the land owner – for example he/she may not want you riding at certain times, or smoking on the land, etc.

Furthermore, you should always leave the land as you found it. For example, if a gate was closed when you arrived, make sure it is closed when you leave. Also, you should take any opportunity to leave the area better than when you arrived. If there is litter present, clean it up. Taking a little time to help out will show the land owner that you’re willing to make a contribution to the area and he/she will be more liberal about letting you use their land.

Tearing up the land by riding your quad or dirt bike is rude, and is certainly bad riding etiquette. Respect for the property of others should be your primary concern. You can reduce this by refraining from riding through some areas with softer terrain such as meadows, streams and certain steep hills. Along the same lines, it is advisable to also exercise caution if you happen to be riding on populated dirt roads. If you end up damaging roads, you could incur a considerable fine if you’re held liable to fix them.

Respect for the environment should be a priority and extra care should be taken when riding through wooded areas. Plant and animal life is precious and carelessness can cause damage that is irresponsible and unnecessary. Remember, you’re riding in their world, not the other way around. Furthermore, if an area of the woods is clearly shown to be off limits, obey the signs and stay out of those areas. Observing these guidelines and acting as a mature, responsible, respectful rider will help you gain the trust of those who decide whether your bike gets ridden or remains parked.

About the Author:

Honda built the first three-wheel all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in 1970. Also referred to as a quad bike or quad, these were popular right from the start. Low pressure tires, a straddled seat and handle bars seemed the perfect way to fly over terrain where street vehicles could never go.

It didn’t take long for accidents to begin happening with young fearless riders pushing speeds as high as 100 mph over unfamiliar land in an effort to see how many stunts they could perform. As a result, in the early 1980s, the suspension was improved and tires were made at a lower profile. Wrecks and injuries continued to mount so in 1987, three wheelers were no longer manufactured in an effort to provide more safety for quad bikes.

ATVs are not designed for street use and are even outlawed on public streets in Australia, Canada and the United States. They are designed strictly as use for a recreational vehicle although many have adopted the idea that they work rather well as farm vehicles. A quad bike is great for pulling a wagon full of dirt or parts, climbing through ditches or making quick trips to the field. Unfortunately, this is where many of the quad accidents occur.

From 1996 through 2006, there were twenty-three deaths and thousands of injuries from workers and joy riders alike that simply slid into situations where they could not control the ATV. Most accidents happen within thirty days of the driver ever operating their first quad and are under the age of eighteen years old. Although manufacturers provide training manuals and safety gear with most ATVs, they are not used and a lack of protection causes serious harm.

Ask Ozzy Osbourne about being careful on a four-wheeler, as he was involved in a bad quad bike accident in 2003. He sustained a broken collarbone, eight busted ribs and a damaged vertebra in his neck. Ozzy was not a young unseasoned driver but it goes to prove that even older individuals can easily lose control of a quad. A concert that Osbourne and his daughter had prepared and planned for had to be cancelled due to Ozzy’s physical mishap.

Over 70,000 quads fill our private properties and off road sites today, full of skilled and unskilled riders. Care still needs to be taken. Always wear protective gear, especially a helmet and do not take unnecessary chances just for the thrill of it. The profile tires have a higher center of gravity than a car and can throw you off course and into a tree in a matter of seconds. If you choose a quad to help with transportation around the farm or to use strictly as recreational, read and operate according to the manual and visit your local area’s website for any new regulations that may be taking place for ATVs. The Health and Safety Executive is talking of improving training and protection for these vehicles so it is best to make sure you are in compliance.

About the Author:

Quading is a sport with a guarantee that you will have fun during your stag party with indescribable thrill and wonder, When you go out quading, they are guaranteed to experience an adrenalin rush through their whole body system since it involves riding through rough terrain during winter in some places and through thick mud in others. Therefore, this sport does not discriminate on the kind of weather that a place is experiencing. quad through For this sport, a mud bike, which is also known as a quad is used where the terrain involves a crazy mud ride while the ride during winter for people that wish to limit the risks involved is normally taken in vehicles with higher stability like jeeps.

During winter, one can use quads on the ski resort while the snow is still in its early stages of being formed and then proceed to use the quads once the snow is fully formed. Snowmobiles are preferred at some point due to their greater stability in comparison to quads. When out on a quading outing one is likely to enjoy the slow ride on the snow more with the common quads in comparison to the snowmobiles. Families are not exempted from this thrilling sport since they can take a ride through the rough terrains, take walks in the woods, exploring the mountain sides and simply enjoy their time together.

Persons who go quading can also take beautiful scenery photos to mark their experience days out as they go on in their exploration of the hill sides. Quading in the mud is a fun group activity where they can come together to race through the mud. The highlight of this sport is where the competitors have to work their way through the mud. Should their squad get stuck in the mud then they will be forced to manually get it out either by using another automobile or pull it out manually. Their sentiments on the ‘dirt’ experience are just as lighthearted A little mud never hurt anyone!

Some people go on to make quad jumps on the terrain. For persons who wish to make a quad jump, it is advised that they realize their judgment will either be their greatest undoing or greatest ally. During quading experience days out, one should ensure that they take enough fluids on the trip since quading can leave one drained of energy. Where persons are riding on the quads downhill the task of going uphill can also be quite energy draining. On the other hand one is likely to lose some calories as this sport is a very rewarding workout.

Due to the dangers posed by this sport, the law has put some restrictions in place to avoid the frequency of occurrence of accidents. For instance when riding on rough terrains, one quad should not hold less than sixteen persons for a full size quad while doubling is not allowed due to the abnormal weight transfer. It is also mandatory for one to have third-party liability insurance cover to ride on roads that serve the forests.

Quading is a wonderful experience and a great gift for people of all ages as it can be thought at your own pace

About the Author:

As of the time of this writing, both children and adults are into the craze of using quad bike either for fun or for personal use. This is also known as the mini atv and the youth quad, it is just the same with the adult ATV though it is smaller in shape to suit the demand of young riders. Kids can enjoy what the older generation is given because lots of these smaller kinds are patterned exactly like their full size opposite numbers including frame, motor, and other components. The only difference is that these elements are created in the size which will fit the demand of youngsters.

The motors of mini quad are available in standard sizes for each age group of people who are going to use it. Riders who are about six to twelve years of age can have a 50cc motor size while riders from twelve to sixteen are given with the ninety cc version. For teenagers that are 16 years of age, a motor which is more than 90 cc is suitable.

Lots of mini quad bike are available with automatic two speed transmission, or often three speed transmission. There are some good models that can come with auto-clutch which simply mean that there’s no clutch lever but there is still the need to use the left foot to shift gears just like how the adult ATV functions. Although this feature is excellent for youths, smaller kids would still want one with auto transmission since it gives them an ease in use.

When it comes to break, the drum brakes are employed on the front and rear. Nonetheless, there are some models that are created with upgraded discs on the front and rear ends which is of course better.

When taking for consideration the floorboards, its important not to go with mini quad bike that doesn’t has one. This is for the reason that you want to have your children’s feet protected all the time from the incident of being caught in the wheel.

way more than a source of joy, this specific tool can also build up the confidence of your kid because there are so many contests that are held as of these days re quad competitions. Your kid will develop friendship and the value of sportsmanship.

.

About the Author:

Selecting the correct quad trailer for your needs is a complicated task. Often ATV owners underestimate the size of trailer they need. Consider all the options along with your needs before you purchase.

For those who intend on transporting their quads once or twice a year, rental is sufficient. But most ATV owners enjoy going places other than their own backyard. To transport these vehicles to the desired location, proper trailer is needed. The size and number of bikes you have determines the best choice of trailer.

All-terrain quads vary significantly in weight. They can weigh anywhere from 300 pounds to nearly half a ton. The weight of your ATV is important when considering the capacity of the trailer and the vehicle hauling the trailer. The dimensions of ATVs also vary. Carefully measure each vehicle you intend to haul before making a purchase. Guesswork only causes aggravation.

Trucks or vans that have enough room for one ATV are convenient. One quad fits in the back of most trucks and some vans. However, purchase a second ATV and things change. What if someone wants to come along for the ride? Though you don’t own multiple ATVs yourself, often you’ll be wishing you had the bigger trailer.

Single unit ATV trailers do come in a variety of sizes. Small tilt ATV haulers with ramps fit most hitches and fulfill basic hauling needs. Do-it-yourselfers can enjoy kit trailers that you build yourself for a reduced price. The dimensions are 4′ or 5′ by 8′ and have a weight limit of less than 1,000 pounds. Swivel wheel trailers, often used with SUV’s, reduce tongue weight and also the chance of jack knifing. However, these often have a lower weight limit than larger trailers.

If you have only one bike presently, you will likely buy another one down the road. Think long term about the future of your quad trailer. It is inconvenient to sell what you already have to purchase a new trailer. This would be necessary to accommodate extra bikes only a year or two later. Make sure you are making the most realistic investment.

Multiple capacity trailers accommodate different configurations of quad vehicles. The dimensions of the trailer determine whether the ATVs will sit end to end or side by side. Double ATV trailers have an open construction and are built to handle two ATVs. Look closely at the construction of these trailers. Double haulers may not fit two fully sized ATVs. Smaller tires can sometimes indicate a weaker construction. Make sure you get the best quality for you money.

Triple and quadruple ATV trailers are designed to haul three to four ATVs. These open rack trailers are sufficient for most quad devotees. Triple ATV trailers measure around 7′ by 12′ or 8′ by 13′, and cost a couple thousand dollars or more. Quadruple quad trailers are a bit larger and follow closely in price.

Enclosed quad trailers are much larger and more expensive than some of the other options for ATV transport. However, the extra protection and comfort are worth the expense. These easily contain several all-terrain vehicles along with maintenance equipment. Available enclosed trailers range from single axle trailers for smaller tow jobs to nearly 40 feet. Enclosed trailers protect your vehicles from the weather during transport so they are ride-ready on arrival.

Recreational enthusiasts have the option of RVs with extra hauling space for ATVs in the back compartment. These are called toy haulers and can run anywhere from ten grand to upwards of $60,000. While a double or quadruple trailer will suffice for most people, this particular option provides an all-inclusive option.

About the Author:

Kids find pocket bikes exciting and a whole lot of fun, but they’re also motorized high speed racing vehicles. Parents must ensure extra care is taken before letting the kids operate a pocket bike. With the proper precautions parents are able to reduce or avoid dangerous and serious injury or death. Follow these basic safety tips at all times when letting kids ride pocket bikes.

Helmet – The most important piece of protective gear you can wear is a certified pocket bike helmet! Wearing an approved helmet may reduce the risk of serious injury or death. Ensure the helmets meet with local authorities’ required helmet certification. Be sure kids always wear helmets with the chinstrap securely buckled.

Full Body Riding Suit– Though knee pads and elbow pads with hard caps (plastic or otherwise) offer increased protection for adults, it is better for kids to wear a one-piece riding suit.

Gloves & Boots – Making sure kids wear sock and boot when riding the pocket bike will protect them most serious injuries. Sneakers can also be worn till you find suitable boots for them. Never in any circumstances wear sandals or footwear that exposes parts of the feet.

Age Appropriateness: Usually, pocket bikes are designed for children aged 13-16, even then, they should not be allowed to operate pocket bikes without close adult supervision. Children under 12 should never ride pocket bikes. However, pocket bike manufacturers do recommend the age appropriateness of their pocket bikes and all local laws regarding age restrictions.

Avoid Streets and Sidewalks: Make sure your kids do not ride their pocket bikes on highways, streets, sidewalks, roads, paths, or other areas used by motor vehicles. It is illegal and a pocket bikes low profile puts the rider at great risk of being hit by a motor vehicle that doesn’t see them.

Local Laws and Regulations: Find out and observe all local pocket bike laws and regulations.

Understand The Power and Capabilities: Though small in size, most pocket bikes are capable of reaching high speeds. Help your kids to understand the power their pocket bike is capable of and to be cautious of that power when riding.

Don’t be over-cautious till there’s no room for fun. Just keep in mind that pocket bikes are not toys and follow these safety guidelines. Let the FUN begin.

Find out more about pocket bikes for kids, safety gears for kids and watch kids riding pocket bikes at the hottest and fastest-growing site for pocket bikes. http://www.pocketbikeforkids.com/

About the Author:

A pocket bike is a two wheeled motorized device that has a seat or saddle for the use of the rider and that is not designated or manufactured for highway use.

Pocket bikes are also small motorcycles powered by 40-49cc gasoline engines or electric motors, thus they are many other names and varieties of pocket bikes, including mini bikes, pocket mini bikes, pocket rockets, mini motos, pocket racers, dirt pocket bikes, pit bikes, dirt mini bikes, and more, but they all are smaller versions, typically less than 2 feet tall, of some normal-sized motorcycle.

Mini bikes can be categorized into a few specialized types:

* Pocket Rockets: Pocket rockets (also called mini motos) refer to pocket bikes that are styled to resemble the Grand Prix (GP) sport and street bikes.

* Pit Bikes: Pit bikes (or dirt mini bikes) are miniature replicas of the motocross dirt racing bikes.

* Mini choppers: Mini chopper bikes are miniature choppers.

* Mini quad bikes: mini quad bikes are four wheeler mini bikes that are made to be like off road ATVs (all terrain vehicles).

All of these pocket bikes share at least one feature-they are small, besides, here are other common features: Lower cost of ownership, quiet, friendlier to the environment, reliable, and safer fun. And all these pocket bikes can be bought at Motocrox.com.

However, the rider and their parents should understand the pocket bike is not a toy and therefore requires that they ride responsibly including full head protection as well as protective clothes.

One more thing needs to mention is that most states prohibit their use on public roadways, but don’t worry, there are still plenty of great places to ride a pocket bike; try your backyard, driveway, or a favorite nearby racetrack.

About the Author:
